Before a gate on the edge of The Oaks, turn left on to a track and then immediately right, following the woodland boundary on your right. At a T-junction turn left along a broad, gently undulating track that follows the line of Ackling Dyke across King Down, part of a Roman road that ran between Dorchester and Old Sarum near modern-day Salisbury.

Cross the main road and pass over Town Bridge, taking the riverside path on the left across an open pasture to a hedgerow corner on the far side. Here turn right and follow the left-hand boundary towards Colber.
